Surah Al Muminun Ayat 109 Tafseer

Para 18 - قَدْ اَفْلَحَ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

23.109-111

اِنَّهٗ كَانَ فَرِیْقٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِیْ یَقُوْلُوْنَ رَبَّنَاۤ اٰمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَ ارْحَمْنَا وَ اَنْتَ خَیْرُ الرّٰحِمِیْنَﭕ(109) فَاتَّخَذْتُمُوْهُمْ سِخْرِیًّا حَتّٰۤى اَنْسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِیْ وَ كُنْتُمْ مِّنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُوْنَ(110) اِنِّیْ جَزَیْتُهُمُ الْیَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوْۤاۙ-اَنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْفَآىٕزُوْنَ(111)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Indeed, a group from My people used to say, “O our Lord! We believed so forgive us, and have mercy on us, and You are the most Merciful of the merciful.” So, you took them in mockery[1] until they (mocking them) caused you to forget my remembrance, and you used to laugh at them. Indeed, today I have recompensed them for their patience that they are prosperous.

Commentary

Here, one reason mentioned for severely rebuking the disbelievers in Hell is that they used to mock the righteous people of Allah Almighty by belittling them and ridiculing them because of their material poverty. Unfortunately, this trait of conceit is found in some academics, columnists, and affluent people who not only identify as Muslims but also consider themselves to be paragons of wisdom; they do not waste any opportunity to mock the noble scholars and devout Muslims. Such people should reflect upon their approach and the potentially terrifying consequences in the Hereafter.
